Love Tease

Inspired by the painting of the same name by Rob Steenhorst

I see two on a fishing trip, they are angling sportsmen on a loveless luckless night.
Smooth sounds of jazzy bars fly from their lips, like lures to wind, they cast to get a bite.
They fling their magic lines before the rain falls and gets their love boat soaking wet.
So desperate for a trophy and a prize, they toss them at some strangers they’ve just met.

“Baby baby… you are fine, I’d sure like to take you home and make you mine”
Are these ladies just the innocents in someone else’s game and perfect passion play?
“No baby this is not a line, I’d like to take you home and make you mine.”
Are they looking, to be loved at midnight, all night, hopefully for more than just a day?

I see two women out too late, in the wrong unlikely place, for finding what they seek,
being pawed and bothered, teased and followed, as their answer No! seems too oblique.
Walking faster, their gestures saying “No” I said, “No!” Why do you not yet understand?
While the hunters in the chase, pursue them hearing “No,” with their male desires fanned.

“Baby baby… you are fine, I’d sure like to take you home and make you mine”
Oh ladies are you the innocents in someone else’s game and perfect passion play?
“No baby this is not a line, I’d like to take you home and make you mine.”
Are you looking to be loved at midnight, all night, hopefully for more than just a day?

The hunter loves the hunt more than eating game, the fisherman for him it is the same.
These sporting types are proud to bag n’ brag, catch ‘n release becomes their biggest claim.
There’s only one who is what he seems to be, as humbly he sits straight up and begs,
The street dog will likely get more than all the others, who are tied up in their love tease on two legs.

“Baby baby… you are fine, I’d sure like to take you home and make you mine”
Oh ladies you might be the innocents in someone else’s game, and perfect passion play.
“No baby this is not a line, I’d like to take you home and make you mine.”
You’re looking to be loved at midnight, and all night, hopefully for more than just a day.

nice way you used the words.. :-)

  2. This is the fourth and last poem I have promised to do for Rob Steenhorst/Rob Barber in SL. I enjoyed this challenge, as the subject matter and the style of his art, was new to me and pulled me out of my normal poetic formats, rhyme schemes, and styles. I include here a link to a post on another website that talks a bit more about the artist and his art http://cyberloom.wordpress.com/2011/06/08/love-dot/
The other three poems can be found here below:

Loved this poem sis, you caught the seediness and cynicism of the painting perfectly with your words.

    • Thanks Sis, yes there are both those elements inside it, at least from my interpretation. Thank you so much for your comment, and very glad that you enjoyed it. This is my fourth poem of the series for Rob Steenhorst. Now..I’m done.

  5. Ha Karima,
I have slide into a period of contemplating the work i have done for the last decade. Looking back and reconsider the images i have produced en the response they provoked. There are perhaps some details i would work out a little different, but i all i think i have been quite successful in in what i aimed for; developing a pictorial form for my vision on mankind in a body of works that shows all the nuances of that vision.
This body of works is separated in 6 serials: “The Girls’, “Towns People”, “The Utopians”, “A Sporting Life” and, still in progress, “A New Era”.
The work “Love Tease” is part of the serial ” A Sporting Life” of works that investigates and depicts love, intimacy and the underlaying sexual drive between partners. The works are “Love Dot”, “Love Couple”, “Love Scene” and “Love Tease”. I did not looked for the romantic, hoped and dreamed love, but for the daily practice. The daily shared moments that cover a whole range of emotions from being in a an erotic mood to a hard quarrel. Acting as people who are in a matured and settled love.
The poems you did have been one of the most valuable reactions, perhaps the most valuable. It is about 1 1/2 year later and your poems still stands. A facet of the theme that is in “Love Tease” has been perfectly captured in words and shaped in to an autonomous poem. My appreciation for your poems is still growing.
