Unfinished

Art copies Art copies Life and visa versa. I find myself once again very much inspired by a painting in progress, which does not even have a name at this stage, from my dear artist friend Jan Betts, whose paintings also have inspired my poems and many chapters of my machinima series “The Two” The more time I find myself spending on my Kitely World, “Water and Glass”, the more I feel influenced by its cool blue colors, to reach into my nostalgic memories and create from there. This will be my third poem I have written in what I am calling my “Water and Glass Series.” The other two, “Water and Glass” and my bilingual “Shooting Star” have had that common thread of pensive musing, and nostalgia. I feel in this latest one, an air of virtual nocturne being played under the watchful eye of a Full Diva Moon.
Jan is sharing with her readers on her blog, the morphing of a painting, from the first splatters to the finished signed work of art (see blog post) and this metaphor filled me and inspired what I offer below in my latest YouTube video poem. I recommend her site, Jan Betts Art, to view and enjoy a collection of what is almost a lifetime of her Art.
I also want to say a special thank you once again to Linda Kellie, whose world on Kitely as well as her webpage, offer so many wonderful things , all free, and full perm, to make any virtual world more beautiful, comfortable, and more romantic (I love her cuddle pillows and dances)
The YouTube is in high quality, so it looks good in full-screen. The music is another one of my Garage Band originals (no loops involved) so I hope you will enjoy the finished “Unfinished”
I will include the words to the poem below the video.

Unfinished

The full moon climbs to the center stage for soon it will begin to whisper and reveal
floating high above me, while I am on the shoreline of yet one more sea of memories.
Unfinished you have left me,  just like your painting on the easel waiting.
Unfinished, reminding me how totally incomplete I am, without your artist’s loving hand.

Every pastel watery stroke, when your brush dipped into oil and every word we spoke,
comes to haunt, when the glowing Diva strips away my protection of a busy day.
and loneliness whispers in my ear, “Now you know it’s  always going to be this way.”
Your Art is my home, your Art is the garden in which I now walk alone.

I take your colors and change them into words and throw them on the sea.
I take the emptiness I feel inside and cast it out upon the moonlight waves.
Unfinished you have left me, your master work, your passion and your gifted responsibility,
and like the last painting incomplete, I am not sure what it is that I’m supposed to be.

All the words and all the scenes are swirling o’er my wandering night-watch  dreams.
Your art and way of capturing Life and me, can not be healed on moon drunk reveries.
Now preserved inside of glass, all held like my breath while every scene goes around,
and moon looks down upon a castaway… a work of art abandoned on the ground.

The full moon climbs to its stage for soon it will begin to whisper and reveal
floating high above me, while I am on the shoreline of yet one more sea of memories.
Unfinished you have left me, just like your painting on the easel waiting.
Unfinished, reminding me how totally incomplete I am, without your artist’s hand.

I take your colors and change them into words and throw them on the sea
I take the emptiness I feel inside and cast it out upon the moonlight waves.
Unfinished you have left me, your master work, your passion and your gifted responsibility,
and like the last painting incomplete, I am not sure what it is that I’m supposed to be.

Please return I beg of you…
Do you think I have the strength or gift to finish  what you have begun,
to place your signature upon one corner as living proof that you are pleased with what you have created, and that now your greatest work is finally done?
Just don’t let me drift away haunted for eternity…
Come, to finish this last one that you began, and take your loving time to finally sign me.

The feeling of being immersed in flow, flux, shift and change is evocative, and floats on your exquisite music. The central metaphor of your poem is haunting, and carries layers of meaning. Beautiful work, as always, Kari. Bravo! Hugs from Happiness

    • Thanks so much Happiness.. Yes I tried to make it haunting as a full moon night full of nostalgic ghosts..The metaphor can be seen on many levels, true The artist could be The Creator Himself, or a lover who has just walked out the door. Jan’s new unfinished painting was the catalyst..I am so glad you found it (the entire thing) beautiful..

    Wow.
Karima. I just encountered and allowed myself to be pulled into your spell in this your latest work of mystery and depth…and oh!! again using my painting, a new one i am just now working on, (so it is really unfinished, in real time RL). i feel flushed, with a feeling i don’t have words for….and i ponder your words, as i listen to your music adding a graceful melancholy. For me, it touches a truth inside that is indeed alone. And this deep conscious alone space is also a living Work in progress, while at the same time Perfect as IS. Who/what “completes” us….and what does that even mean???? I inquire within about a feeling that is stirred up by this poem. Most of us feel a sense of meaning to the idea that there is someone “out there” who will “finish” or complete us in a way we cannot do ourselves. I imagine the feeling that “God” must have had when the Garden was created, and then Man/Woman….>in order that they can serve Him by experiencing His vast display of creation, with Heart…and thus God experiences Love in the joys of the finite, unavailable before as Infinite!!! Otherwise, it just is. Beautiful beyond all imaginings…but devoid of meaning? I ponder the souls desire to ride and play in this vast carousel of potential possibilities …yet at the same time…be perfect and whole alone, yet acutely awake. It seems to me that that is where your inspired art…words, music, visuals… your unique art….comes from. It happens when we get out of the way and allow art to become itself, offering little or no resistance. But…must we remain alone? A blessing or a curse? …the Seer…the Experiencer…the Lover…of what then? Does “God” put in the final paint strokes, giving us permission to play in his vast realm of beauty and Divine meaning, without getting lost? Free?
As always, thank you for sharing your art…it always touches deep. And i feel so honored that my art was part of it!! What a delight to see my painting come to life in this way!!!

  3. Oh Jan..you found a great descriptive phrase “graceful melancholy” I just love that..it’s when something is so beautifully sad as Hoyt says “Heartbreakenly beautiful” it makes your heart.. ache, but in a good way.
Your painting again!! People might begin to talk (*smiling kidding*) but really it is amazing, once again something you have created, or are in the process of creating, was the catalyst to send me into “moon drunk reveries” You know from my original piano pieces I used to invent, that minor nocturnes are something I truly love..and I am happy the music is as nostalgic as the words.. You deeply understand this poem on layers way beneath the surface, and your thoughts are always so inspired and amazing.. I have nothing to add..you saw way into the metaphor and yes it is a question I think all artists and seers ask..”must we be alone?” Are we all gloriously unfinished until we breathe our last breath and is that when the signing takes place? Anyway, your words on it are perfect and clear and I am so happy you felt the thrill of seeing your unfinished painting, waving as a gel., as a sail, and as a screen weaving the mood around the metaphor..Thank you dear friend for sharing your gifted talent with me and with us all..

  4. A masterly combination, enchanting and inspiring as ever ! A philosophical topic – thoughts, we all had pondered in our minds, questions, we had been looking for answers……
ravishingly dressed in a parable. Isn`t there always this longing deep in us, to be complete, this dream, to be fulfilled by ( some would call it ) god or a living being. If we are privileged, we can get a glance , for a certain period of time, how it could be feel to be completed – and that is, what love can do for you….But we can`t hold on, and we know it. In the last consequence, we have to face, that we are alone, from birth till death. But the desire to overcome this knowledge gives us the power and energy to be creative, to love, to stay a seeker…… till infinity….
love your last work, Karima ****

  5. Muchisimas gracias Isabel for your wonderful comment..while I was reading it, I heard the great human nocturne being played in my mind..You are right, love and if we are lucky a few close encounters to something Divine makes us feel complete…Otherwise many times we wander with that feeling we are still missing something..Beautiful musings you have left here, from a beautiful soul:)

  6. Bows respectfully in the presence of your genius, Sissy. Drawn totally into the melancholy, lulled into a state of quiet awe by your keen and ever evolving abilities to share your visions so fully. I feel such empathy for the soul of the one(s) who feel… unfinished, as it is a haunting of sorts, of mind and soul. I am sure there are many who can relate to the subdued passion and lingering hope evoked by this piece. An emotional piece masterfully presented. APPLAUSE!!

  7. Aww Sis thank you for this beautiful comment and for feeling the poem and the ambiance of the video from a deep place in your own compassionate heart. Yes all who feel this way, need a hug *smiles that might help for a minute or two.:). but the longing is part of our human condition I am pretty sure and as Isabel says,. only feeling loved can sort of mitigate that eternal hole within us. and making our own personal connection to The Artist who created us..Sometimes it feels really good to feel such melancholy..(I know..such a poet’s point of view..) but really it does:)

  8. Hoyt Heron says:

As always, Jan’s arrow is true to the mark. I can see, she is also, like you, a painter using words. Karima, your words are intoxicating to say the least. I love the Poesque tinge to your poetry. You use it, but at the same time, your works are uniquely yours and unparalleled. As always, with KH poems, you invoke feelings that can be shared by many of your readers. And then…Your voice! Need I say more?

  9. Thank you Hoyt for enjoying “Unfinished” so very much, and for saying the poem was “Poesque” which as you know is quite a compliment..and I don’t think you just throw those around:) I too am pleased with how this one turned out, and I think the mood does invoke feelings…as for me nocturnes have always done. The music is like a singing night bird,..like our cuyeo here in Costa Rica, a haunting repetitive sound, that plays a powerful duet with a full Diva Moon.
